So, what about color 2024?

The concept of meta imagination, where fantasy shapes ideas and digital colours will land on physical products. Espand your color strategy here

OMG guys is this really happening? this is my first newsletter, a lil piece of content I’m planning since ages but never really got to do the first baby step.

What is my newsletter going to be about?: Color. Color and all its applications in creative fields. My idea is to provide you with color palettes and ideas to expand your color strategy either you are in fashion, interior, beauty or packaging design. From AI art generators to structural color innovations, this newsletter will help you to understand how to implement new transformative color and material concepts in whatever you are working on rn :-P

This first newsletter is not so much about specific color palettes, it’s about structural color effects. By 2025, color will be a key part of immersive and transformative experiences, and this will continue up to 2027 with metaverse-inspired transformative color, simulated effects and AI color. Tech-driven creative tools such as AI art generators blur the line between reality and fantasy and we see synthetic creativity re-energizing and inspiring us through products. These tools are being used to blend color and materials, resulting in experimental usage that can stand out in both worlds. Here a few effect you should keep an eye on:

  1. Structural color: Scientists are leading next-generation color and revolutionary structures, with new pigments and technologies that are pushing boundaries with chromatic color.

Why is it key? Led by scientific advancements exploring the natural phenomena occurring in some pigments found in nature, here structural color and iridescence is created through microscopic structures that reflect and refract light in unique ways, as tiny prisms or holograms to bend and reflect the light back into our eyes. Special finishes harnessing this color-changing phenomena can create colors that would have once been unachievable.

How to implement: think of coatings, plastics, metals, leather, cosmetics and glass. Energize ordinary products with color-shifting finishes. Think of this finishing as lucid-dreaming effect.

Relevant for: architecture, product design, interiors, accessories, jewellery, apparel, footwear, hair and color cosmetics, packaging, consumer tech, automotive.

  1. TMy ide: The conjunction between art and science sees innovators seeking to replace artificial glow with bio-based matter naturally created with organisms such as algae and marine bacteria.

Why is it key? Inspired by nature and the metaverse, bioluminescent glow magically transforms products and spaces to offer sensorial color and finishes.

How to implement: work with bio-based color and use it with natural and recycled materials for lower impact. Explore bio-glow, structural iridescence and glow-in-the-dark patterns.

Relevant for: accessories, jewellery, apparel, packaging, product design, interiors, consumer tech.

  1. Out of the darkness: Transformative color, form and finish are inspired by the second space age and meta-imagination.

Why is it key? Digital and physical application sees the interplay of colors and shadows with visual effects that morph and change depending on lighting and movement.

How to implement: develop ombré and light catching gradients to replicate color-changing effects for glass, ceramic, mirror, aluminum, paint and textiles. Explore holographic pigments in tinted darks to create unusual and mesmerising color gradients and surface textures. Use deep dark metallics on glossy finishes to create a luxe look and feel.

Relevant for: apparel, accessories, jewellery, footwear, automotive, consumer tech, AR/VR, packaging, color cosmetics, interiors.

  1. Pearl-like transparency: Intelligent transparency drives this ethereal direction, with futuristic and iridescent qualities creating a surreal and dreamlike aesthetic.

Why is it key? Providing an antidote to highly stimulating colors and textures, designers are opting for barely there hues, metallics and transparent products. With solid materials taking on a ghostly translucence inspired by AI generated art.

How to implement: use pearlescent and nacré shimmers to create subtle iridescence on glass, resin and textiles. Use structural colors for subtle opalescent effects. Combine with tinted transparency to create a delicate and ethereal feel.

Relevant for: accessories, jewellery, product design, cosmetics, apparel, packaging, interiors, automotive, consumer tech, AR/VR

The concept of meta imagination, where fantasy shapes ideas, will be accelerated by the Metaverse and after effects on products will be very much appreciated upgrading products.

Babe, I’m glad you’ve read this and hope it was somehow relevant for your creative activity. Lemy know if you liked this information (or even if you didn’t)

Love,
